EDHA concern guide

Anxiety & Panic

Anxiety can show up as racing thoughts, physical tension, avoidance, panic episodes or a feeling that it is difficult to switch off. People seek support when anxiety begins to interfere with work, relationships, sleep or everyday decisions.

People often seek support when...

  • Frequent worry that feels difficult to control
  • Panic attacks or fear of another panic episode
  • Avoiding situations because of fear or uncertainty
  • Physical symptoms such as tension, restlessness or rapid heartbeat

How counselling may help

  • Understand patterns that maintain anxiety
  • Build practical coping and emotional-regulation skills
  • Work gradually with avoidance and fear
  • Develop a more grounded relationship with uncertainty

When other care may also be appropriate

If anxiety is severe, sudden, linked to significant physical symptoms, or accompanied by thoughts of self-harm, seek appropriate medical or urgent in-person support.

EDHA is not an emergency service. If there is immediate risk, seek urgent in-person help through local emergency services or the nearest hospital. Government of India Tele-MANAS is available 24x7 at 14416 or 1800-89-14416.
