EDHA concern guide

Grief & Loss

Grief can follow bereavement, relationship endings, health changes, job loss or other major transitions. There is no single correct way to grieve, but support can help when the experience feels overwhelming or isolating.

People often seek support when...

  • Intense sadness, anger, guilt or numbness
  • Difficulty adjusting to life after a loss
  • Feeling isolated in grief
  • Grief affecting sleep, work or relationships for a prolonged period

How counselling may help

  • Create space to process the loss at your own pace
  • Work with guilt, unfinished conversations or identity changes
  • Support routines and connection during adjustment
  • Understand the difference between grief and other difficulties that may need additional care

When other care may also be appropriate

If grief is accompanied by thoughts of self-harm, severe functional decline or other acute symptoms, seek urgent or specialist assessment.

EDHA is not an emergency service. If there is immediate risk, seek urgent in-person help through local emergency services or the nearest hospital. Government of India Tele-MANAS is available 24x7 at 14416 or 1800-89-14416.
