EDHA concern guide

Loneliness & Isolation

Loneliness can occur even when other people are around. It may be linked to transitions, relationship loss, confidence, anxiety or long-standing patterns of disconnection.

People often seek support when...

  • Feeling emotionally disconnected from others
  • Difficulty forming or maintaining relationships
  • Withdrawal after loss or change
  • Feeling unseen, unsupported or socially anxious

How counselling may help

  • Understand barriers to connection
  • Work with social anxiety or fear of rejection
  • Build confidence in communication and boundaries
  • Identify realistic ways to increase meaningful connection

When other care may also be appropriate

If isolation is accompanied by severe depression, self-neglect or thoughts of self-harm, seek appropriate urgent or clinical support.

EDHA is not an emergency service. If there is immediate risk, seek urgent in-person help through local emergency services or the nearest hospital. Government of India Tele-MANAS is available 24x7 at 14416 or 1800-89-14416.
