EDHA concern guide

Self-Esteem & Confidence

Low self-esteem can influence relationships, decisions, work and the way setbacks are interpreted. Support can help you understand where these patterns come from and build a more balanced sense of self.

People often seek support when...

  • Harsh self-criticism or frequent comparison
  • Fear of failure or rejection
  • Difficulty setting boundaries or expressing needs
  • Avoiding opportunities because of self-doubt

How counselling may help

  • Identify beliefs that shape self-worth
  • Develop more balanced self-talk and expectations
  • Practise assertiveness and boundary-setting
  • Take gradual action toward valued goals

When other care may also be appropriate

If self-esteem difficulties are part of severe depression, trauma or another significant mental-health condition, broader clinical support may be appropriate.
